CLOVE OF GARLIC

Garlic is a species of bulbous flowering plant and is closely related to onions, shallots, leeks, and Chinese onions. It is used for flavoring in cooking widely besides used as medicine throughout ancient history and also in modern world.
Garlic is normally sold as a whole bulb or in heads and covered in whitish papery skin. If we remove the outer papery layer, we found that one bulb is made up of many individual lobes. These lobes are also covered in papery skin and each of these lobes is called clove of garlic. Cloves of garlic may vary in size within a head.
Every head is different as the number of cloves in a head varies mostly depending on the type. Some heads have five cloves or fewer may have 20 or more. Mostly you find a garlic bulb made up of 10-12 cloves of garlic at the grocery stores.
Generally, garlic power is not a true substitute for real garlic, however, you can take ΒΌ teaspoon of garlic powder for each clove of garlic. Further, I teaspoon of minced garlic equals 1.5 cloves of garlic.
A single clove approx. 3 gm weight has the following.
Many studies found that garlic supplements are well known to boost the function of the immune system. A large study showed that intake of a daily garlic supplement reduces the 63% chance of suffering a cold as compared with a placebo. Further consumption of 2.56 grams of garlic extract per day reduces 61% of the chances of sick with a cold or flu.
High doses of garlic supplements have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure in patients with high blood pressure as hypertension is one of the most important factors in heart attack and strokes. Further, garlic supplements appear to reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) without no reliable effect on HDL (good cholesterol), which are another known risk factor for heart diseases.
Garlic contains sulfur compounds and thus high doses may protect against organ damage from heavy metal toxicity. High doses of garlic supplements can reduce 19% of lead acid levels in the bodies of employees who worked at battery plants (an average battery may contain up to 10 kg of lead acid). Further three doses of garlic daily may have a positive effect on the drug D-penicillamine in reducing symptoms.
